Biography:
Hunter Smith played for Division I Mid-major Gardner-Webb University in 2013 and 2014 before transferring to UNC-Greensboro to finish his collegiate career. Smith posted an NCAA career 4.27 ERA before he was drafted in 2016 by the Boston Red Sox in the 24th round.
Smith played with former T-Bone Keith Curcio, that was with the T-Bones 2018 championship roster, at class Double-A Portland Sea Dogs and class Adv. A Salem Red Sox. While in Portland he was on the team as Red Sox standout Dustin Pedroia was on assignment before his contemplation of retiring from baseball due to the injury to his calf and knee in the slide into second from now San Diego Padre Manny Machado.
He bounced back and forth from Salem to Portland a couple times since 2018 and had battled injury on a few accounts. The first was back in 2018 on June 16, then on July 1. Both were only 7-day listings. In 2019, Smith was put on the 7-day IL on April 4th and April 13th.
Smith had a short tenure for Double-A Portland as he only pitched one game that resulted in a 3 inning save. With Adv. A Salem he sports a 5.87 ERA, 51 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.70.
Hunter Smith was released from the Salem Red Sox on July 26th of this year and will sign with the Kansas City T-Bones today July 31st . |
