Biography:

Christian Binford joins the T-Bones after spending the last season with the Detroit Tigers AA club, the Erie Seawolves in the Eastern League and the High A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles in the Carolina League. He would go 1-4 at single A Bowie with a 4.95 ERA in 12 games, working 56.1 innings with 35 strike outs. With Erie the righty would see action in seven games, tossing 21 innings with a 3.86 ERA with 22 strike outs.

Binford was originally selected by Kansas City in the 30th round of the 2011 draft and would make a steady climb in the Royals’ system. He spent 2017 in the Royals organization with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha and would go 1-0 with a 1.99 ERA and 23 strikeouts in five games with Northwest Arkansas. Binford would post a 7.24 ERA at AAA Omaha in 22 games.

Binford began 2016 at AA Northwest Arkansas where he went 3-2 in six games with a 4.84 ERA and 29 strikeouts. He was promoted to AAA Omaha on May 16th where he would go 3-12 in 19 games, making 18 starts with a 5.28 ERA.  He would split the 2105 seasons with Omaha and Northwest Arkansas, opening the year at AAA Omaha where he went 1-4 with a 5.86 ERA in six games. He finished the year in the Texas League at AA Northwest Arkansas where he appeared in 16 games with a 4-7 record with a 5.03 ERA and 60 strike outs in 91.1 innings.

Binford began the 2014 season rated as the Royals' No. 10 prospect according to Baseball America, and he was also selected as the prospect with the "Best Control". He earned a spot on the Carolina League All-Star team and was part of the Futures All-Star Game at Target Field. He pitched a scoreless inning for the U.S. Team in the game. Binford began the year with Class-A Wilmington in the Carolina League, going 5-4 in 14 games with a 2.40 ERA and 92 strikeouts. He would make the jump to AA, working in eight games with Northwest Arkansas, striking out 36 and walking six in 48.0 innings. Binford would get a late season call up to AAA where he had a 5.40 ERA in four relief outings and where he earned a starting nod in the Triple-A National Championship Game vs. Pawtucket, but he didn't factor into the decision after allowing one run over 3.0 innings in Omaha's 4-2 win.

In 2013 he spent the year with Class-A Lexington where he had a 2.67 ERA in 23 games (23 starts) while striking out 130 and walking 25 and where he was named a South Atlantic League Midseason All-Star. In his rookie season, he would pitch in eight games for the Burlington Royals in the Appalachian League. Binford was born in Florida but was raised in Hagerstown, Maryland. He attended Mercersburg Academy High School (PA), where he posted a 0.64 ERA in 55.0 IP his senior year. Binford overcame Tommy John surgery his sophomore year at Mercersburg Academy to get recruited by the University of Virginia and to get drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 30th round.
