KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones fell 12-7 Thursday afternoon at TELUS Field to the Edmonton Cracker-Cats. Edmonton was led by third basemen Aaron McEachran who knocked in four RBI, including the game’s first two runs that gave the Cracker-Cats a lead they would not surrender the rest of the afternoon.

Edmonton starter Lou Pote followed with a solid performance on the mound where he allowed just two runs, one earned, in his seven innings of work to earn his sixth win of the season. Kansas City starter Kenny Durost had flashes of brilliance, but a three-run second and a four-run fifth was too much for his offense to overcome.

After being retired in order in the first, the Cracker-Cats jumped ahead in the second. Clint Johnston drew a leadoff walk before Terrence McClain reached on an error by Mario Delgado (pictured) to open up the inning. Third basemen Aaron McEachran then knocked in both runs and later scored on shortstop George Sandel’s two-out single to center, propelling the Cracker-Cats to a 3-0 lead.

Kansas City got on the board in the third as Delgado drove in center fielder Aharon Eggleston with a sharp line-drive single to right. Edmonton got the run back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI fielder’s choice by McEachran that scored Todd Betts from third.

The T-Bones responded with another run in the fourth as Neb Brown scored from third when Austin Easley stole second and the throw from the catcher Brian Munhall drifted into center.

The Cracker-Cats broke the game open in the fifth, knocking Durost out of the game as they scored four runs on four hits and two walks off Durost. Three scored as inherited runners against Lavon Lewis who replaced Durost with no outs in the inning. Durost finished the game have allowed eight runs, seven earned, on seven hits while striking out four and walking four in his fourth loss of the season.

Travis Schlichting came in the seventh and was charged with four runs after he allowed all six batters he faced to reach. Danny Core followed him and immediately got a double play and the final out. Matt Schweitzer followed Core and pitched a scoreless eighth. The T-Bones scored four runs in the ninth, but the deficit proved too large for Kansas City.

Game Notes: Delgado went four-for-five with two runs scored and an RBI…Kansas City moved to 5-8 in day games with the loss…The T-Bones are now 6-20 versus teams from Canada this season…Neb Brown has extended his hit streak to 11 straight games.
