KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Kansas City and Joliet combined to hit seven total homeruns, with the T-Bones four blasts propelling them to an 11-6 victory over the JackHammers in front of 6,412 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Joliet got on the board first when first baseman Derek Nicholson scored in the top of the second on a double-play ball from Kevin Sullivan.  The T-Bones answered in the bottom of the frame on home runs from Calvin Pickering and Nelson Gord (pictured) that put the T-Bones ahead 3-1.

Kansas City added four more in the third on five hits, including back-to-back home runs from Mario Delgado and Al Benjamin, securing a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the third. All seven runs were charged to Joliet starter Matt Smith, who allowed 10 hits in three innings and was tagged with the loss.

Joliet’s Chad Ehrnsberger responded with a solo home run off T-Bones starter Anthony Boughner in the fourth but Kansas City pulled away again in the fifth, scoring three runs on RBI singles from Austin Easley, Geoff McCallum and Rob Watson to extended the T-Bones lead to eight.  Boughner would pick up the victory after allowing five runs, four earned, on 10 hits in six and one-third innings of work. 

The JackHammers made one last push in the seventh, scoring four runs on four hits to pull within four but fell short as Kansas City scored one more in the eighth for an 11-6 win.  Travis Schlichting allowed one run on one hit in one and two-thirds innings and Danny Core threw a perfect ninth for the T-Bones.

The teams finish the four-game series tomorrow with Nate Sevier going for Joliet versus Dan Jackson for Kansas City.  First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m.

Game Notes:  Al Benjamin hit his 100th professional home run in the third...Rob Watson extended his home on-base streak to 27 games with a single in the fourth inning...Every T-Bones batter had at least one hit, totaling 17 on the night…The 6,412 fans was the largest crowd on a Wednesday night this season, the third straight night that Kansas City has posted a season-best mark.
