SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – T-Bones hurler Dan Jackson (pictured) made his first start since 2002 and held the Schaumburg Flyers to just two runs in six innings of work, picking up the victory as Kansas City took the final game of a four-game set 3-2, splitting their first series of the second-half.

Jackson walked Demetrius Heath to start the first inning before striking out the next two batters he faced.  Heath would later come home on a two-out single from Pat O’Sullivan to open up the scoring for Schaumburg.  Two innings later, O’Sullivan drove in the Flyers second run of the game with another two-out hit, a double, that scored Mike Rohde.

Following O’Sullivan’s double, Jackson retired the next 10 batters before giving way to Lavon Lewis in the top of the seventh.  Lewis continued the trend, retiring the side in the seventh to extend the streak to 13.

Kansas City’s offense battled back in the fourth, scoring their first run on a solo home run from Al Benjamin, his first since joining the T-Bones.   An RBI groundout from Aharon Eggleston plated Nelson Gord to tie the game in the fifth and a sacrifice fly from Neb Brown gave the T-Bones a 3-2 lead in the sixth.  Schaumburg starter Nat Harris picked up the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits in six innings.

Danny Core entered the game in the eighth, walking Alexander Derhak to begin the frame to give the Flyers their first baserunner since the third inning.  Core got the next two hitters before giving way to Matt Schweitzer who got Christian Snavely to end the frame.  The Flyers got a man to second in the ninth, but Schweitzer shut the door to pick up his second save of the season in as many tries.

Game Notes:  Jackson made his first start since June 15, 2002 with Rancho Cucamonga where he allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings in a loss versus Modesto…Benjamin’s home run in the fourth was his first home run in 20 games (85 at-bats) dating back to September 18 of last season when he went two-for-five with a double, a home run and three RBI at Lancaster of the independent Atlantic League.
