SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Kansas City T-Bones used a tenth inning home run by Mario Delgado (pictured) to hold off the Schaumburg Flyers 3-2 at Alexian Field, picking up their first victory of the second half against their division rivals.

The T-Bones took an early lead with a two-run second inning off Schaumburg starter Dan Grybash.  Kansas City collected four hits in the frame, all singles, with RBI base hits from Neb Brown and Pat Arlis plating the runs for the T-Bones.

Kansas City starter Anthony Boughner took the early lead and shut down the Flyers for four innings, keeping them off the bases until the first batter of the fifth inning, Pat O’Sullivan, reached on an error by Brown.  O’Sullivan would later score on a two-out single from Billy Malone to bring Schaumburg within one.  It was the first hit for the Flyers in the contest.

Grybash settled down after Kansas City’s second inning, retiring 12 in a row at one point to keep the Flyers in the game.  Schaumburg would use the opportunity to tie the game in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Malone, plating O’Sullivan who advanced to third on a throwing error by Boughner.  Both runs for Schaumburg were unearned off Boughner who left after seven and one-third innings, allowing two unearned runs on four hits in a no-decision.  He did not walk a single batter in the outing.

Both teams were held scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings, sending the contest into extra innings.  However, Delgado made sure the game would end quickly when he hit a solo home run off former T-Bone James Morrison in the tenth to put the T-Bones ahead 3-2.  Matt Schweitzer pitched a 1-2-3 tenth to preserve the victory for Lavon Lewis and pick up his first save.

Game Notes:  Calvin Pickering failed to reach base for the first time in 30 games, snapping a 29 game on-base streak.  His 0-for-four performance also ended 10-game road hitting and 20-game road on-base streaks…Delgado’s home run was the first long ball for him since he hit a home run in three straight games from June 19-21, a span of 16 games…Boughner’s outing was his second longest of the season (seven and two-thirds on June 8, also in Schaumburg) and was the first outing of 2007 in which he didn’t allow an earned run.
