SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Kansas City T-Bones took an early lead against the Schaumburg Flyers but couldn’t hold on as they dropped the first game of the second half of the season 5-2 at Alexian Field.

The T-Bones were able to capitalize on two first-inning errors by Schaumburg, plating Geoff McCallum for a quick 1-0 advantage against Flyers hurler Drew Dickinson.  Kansas City starter Trevor Caughey held Schaumburg scoreless through three innings, allowing three hits before being pulled in favor of Chris Krawczyk (pictured) to start the fourth.  Dickinson would earn the victory after allowing just one earned run, two total, on five hits in six innings of work.

Krawczyk surrendered hits to the first two batters he faced, the second being an RBI double by Dario Delgado that scored Pat O’Sullivan to tie the game.  Schaumburg took the lead in the fifth on a two-RBI double from Delgado before Kansas City plated one more in the sixth on an RBI single from Calvin Pickering.  The Flyers got two more in their half of the frame off Krawczyk before Travis Schlichting came into finish the inning.  Krawczyk would suffer the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits in two and one-third innings.

Brandon Villafuerte entered the game for Schaumburg in the seventh and struck out the first five batters he faced before inducing a ground ball from Neb Brown to end the eighth.  Schlichting went one and two-thirds scoreless innings for Kansas City.  Danny Core finished the game for the T-Bones, allowing one hit in a scoreless eighth while striking out three.  Former T-Bone James Morrison threw a scoreless ninth to pick up the save for Schaumburg.

Game Notes:  Pickering extended his on-base streak to 29 games with a single in the second, tying George Sandel of Edmonton for the longest in the Northern League this season…Al Benjamin failed to reach base in the contest - the first game since joining Kansas City that he hadn’t done so - ending on-base and hitting streaks of 14 games…Villafuerte and Morrison combined to strike out eight of the 10 T-Bones they faced in the final three innings.
