KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A furious comeback attempt by the T-Bones ended when Neb Brown struck out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, giving the Winnipeg Goldeyes an 8-6 win in front of 5,485 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Kansas City starter Kenny Durost gave up a run in the first when Fehlandt Lentini led off the game with a triple and scored on an RBI double by Chris Latham.  Goldeyes starter Mike Kusiewicz retired the first six T-Bones he faced, maintaining a 1-0 lead through two innings.  Kusiewicz improved to 1-1 after allowing four runs, two earned, on eight hits in seven and two-thirds innings.

Goldeyes’ shortstop Max Poulin led off the third with a walk and scored when Lentini homered to left.  The Goldeyes then loaded the bases with two outs before Brent Metheny drove all three runners home with a double to left, increasing the Goldeyes’ lead to 6-0.  Durost suffered the loss, leaving after having thrown 80 pitches in just three innings.

The T-Bones rallied for four runs in the bottom half of the inning, starting with a single by Austin Easley and a homer by Nelson Gord (pictured), his fourth of the season.  Kansas City then loaded the bases on two singles and an error, scoring a run on walk to Calvin Pickering and another on Neb Brown’s single.

Dan Jackson replaced Durost to start the fourth and pitched three scoreless innings.  Goldeyes’ pitcher Joel Posey, who started the first game of the series, got the final out of the eighth in relief of Kusiewicz.

Jonathan Krysa, Trevor Caughey, and Danny Core pitched the final three innings for Kansas City.  The Goldeyes added insurance runs against Krysa in the eighth and Caughey in the ninth.

The Goldeyes would need both runs as the T-Bones struck for two against Winnipeg closer Matt Davis in the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Rob Watson and an RBI single by Al Benjamin.  The T-Bones had the winning run on first base, but Brown struck out to end the game.

Game Notes:  Calvin Pickering extended his on-base streak to 28 games, one shy of the longest such streak in the Northern League this season.  He also drove in a run for the fourth straight game…Al Benjamin went two-for-five to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.  He has hit in every game he has played this season and has the longest hitting streak by a T-Bone this season…T-Bones starter Kenny Durost threw 46 pitches in the third inning…The T-Bones have lost eight of their nine games against the Goldeyes this season.
