SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Kansas City T-Bones lost on a controversial play at the plate after a drawn out old-fashioned extra-innings pitcher’s duel between left-handed starters Anthony Boughner (pictured) and Billy Keppinger.  The 2-1 11-inning loss at Alexian Field snapped the T-Bones winning streak at three and dropped Kansas City to 9-12.  Manager Andy McCauley was ejected after contesting the final play of the game that ruled Christian Snavely safe on a sacrifice fly.

Boughner started on the hill and rebounded from his first two starts of the season.  He allowed just one run in seven and two-thirds innings of work while getting a no-decision.  Keppinger, coming off his best start of the season, gave up just two hits without allowing a run in his eight innings of work, striking out seven while only walking one.

Keppinger retired the first 11 T-Bones he faced, allowing just a single through the first five innings.  Boughner gave up a baserunner in each of his first six innings, but never allowed the runner to score as he cruised through seven innings, striking out seven while walking none.

The Flyers would finally score off of Boughner in the eighth inning when Chris Snavely plated David Hoffman on a ground out to first base.  Matt Schweitzer then came into relieve Boughner and struck out the only batter he faced, leaving runners at second and third.

Former T-Bones reliever James Morrison came in to pitch the ninth and blew his second save of the season.  After retiring Rob Waton, Morrison loaded the bases with two walks and an infield single, bringing designated-hitter Calvin Pickering to the plate.  Pickering grounded out to second but a missed tag on Delgado allowed the run to score to tie the game. Donaldo Mendez struck out to end the inning, leaving the score tied 1-1. Schweitzer held the Flyers scoreless in the ninth, sending the game into extra innings.

Brett Reid made his tenth appearance of the season in the tenth inning and loaded the bases with no outs. Dan Jackson came into face Keith Maxwell and got him to ground into a fielder’s choice resulting in David Hoffman being forced out at the plate.  Josh Noviskey then hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Christian Snavely from third on a close play at the plate to win the game. The run handed Reid his second loss of the season.

The series continues tomorrow night at 6:20 as Chris Krawczyk goes for Kansas City against Dan Grybash.
