SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Schaumburg Flyers used a seven-run third inning to take the rubber match from the Kansas City T-Bones 9-4 tonight at Alexian Field.

Both starters were effective early on, breezing through the first two innings.  The T-Bones had a chance to grab the lead in the top of the third off Flyers starter Drew Dickinson after they loaded the bases with nobody out.  Dickinson would get Donaldo Mendez to foul out to first and induced a double play ball from Mario Delgado to end the threat.  Dickinson allowed two runs, both unearned, on six hits in seven innings to earn his first win of the season.

The Flyers capitalized on the missed chance by Kansas City in the third, scoring seven runs on six hits off T-Bones starter Larkin Braxton.  Braxton allowed singles to Kevin House and Demetrius Heath before getting Sandy Almonte to ground to third.  Third baseman Nelson Gord elected to go to second but failed to get the speedy Heath, allowing all the runners to reach safely.  The next batter, Noviskey, grounded to first but also reached safely when Mario Delgado threw offline to home, allowing House to score the first run of the game as the Flyers kept the bases loaded.  After the next batter, Christian Snavely, singled home two runs, a bloop hit from Keith Maxwell loaded the bases for the second time in the inning.  Kevin Bass then brought everyone home with a grand slam, capping off the seven-run frame.  Braxton took the loss, allowing seven runs, six earned, on seven hits in four innings of work.

Kansas City capitalized on two Schaumburg errors in the fifth to score two runs.  Delgado capped off the scoring in the inning with an RBI single that plated Eggleston.  They would add two more in the eighth on an RBI double from Austin Easley and a sacrifice fly from Gord, but couldn’t make up the five-run deficit as Kansas City lost their eighth game in nine tries.

Rick Hummel allowed two runs on two hits in three innings of relief for Kansas City before second baseman Rob Watson (pictured) made an appearance in the eighth, allowing just one hit and striking out Heath in a scoreless frame.

The T-Bones return home tomorrow night for a 7:05 start versus the Joliet JackHammers.

Game Notes:  Brad Correll went 0-for-five to snap his 11-game hitting streak…The relief appearance by Watson was the second of his career.  He made one appearance for Schaumburg last season, allowing one run on two hits while striking out two in two innings of work on August 13 versus Joliet.
