T-Bones Take Series with Comfortable Win

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Brad Correll hit two home runs and Larkin Braxton (pictured) picked up a victory in his first professional game as the T-Bones cruised to a lopsided 13-5 victory over the Schaumburg Flyers in the series finale.

Braxton pitched four scoreless innings to open the game while the T-Bones built a 4-0 lead on Donaldo Mendez’s RBI ground out in the first, Mario Delgado’s two-run double in the third and Brad Correll’s solo shot in the fourth.

Schaumburg rallied, scoring two runs in the fifth on Kevin House’s infield single, when Braxton and third baseman Neb Brown collided while trying to field the ball.  The Flyers pulled within one run in the sixth following Brown’s throwing error, when Kevin Bass doubled to score Josh Noviskey.  After allowing an infield single to David Hoffman, Braxton left the game clinging to a 4-3 lead.  With the tying run on third base, Brett Reid preserved Braxton’s lead by inducing a ground ball to short.

After that, the Flyers never threatened again.  The T-Bones batted around against Brain Martin in the bottom of the sixth, getting RBI doubles from Rob Watson and Mario Delgado and a two-run homer from Correll on their way to scoring seven runs and taking an 11-3 lead.  Austin Easley and Delgado each added solo home runs in the seventh and eighth to extend the lead.

Schaumburg scraped out two runs against Rick Hummel in the top of the ninth, but the game had already been decided.  The T-Bones won for the third time this season and improved to 3-1, while Schaumburg fell to 1-3.  The T-Bones will welcome the Edmonton Cracker-Cats for three games at CommunityAmerica Ballpark beginning at 7:05 tomorrow night.
