T-Bones Rally for Comeback Victory

05/19/2007 10:38 PM -

KANSAS CITY , Kan. – The Kansas T-Bones used an impressive comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 7-3 win over the Schaumburg Flyers in front of 6,570 fans. The game puts the T-Bones atop the South Division with a 2-1 record and moved the Flyers to a 1-2 mark.

Flyers starting pitcher Dan Grybash cruised through the first six innings, allowing just one hit. The T-Bones bats came alive in the seventh inning with a five-run explosion that would be the difference in the game.  Grybash stuck Calvin Pickering out to begin the inning before giving way to the bullpen with runners on second and third and a run in.

Schaumburg took the early lead when centerfielder Kevin House crushed a solo home run to left field off Kansas City starter Kenny Durost in the first. Durost, a former Flyer, struggled with his control, walking a total of 8 batters while allowing three runs in five and a third innings of work.  The Flyers added two more runs in the fourth inning, taking a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning.

The Flyers looked to be in control until the seventh inning.  Pitchers Grybash, Vince Davis and James Morrison all combined to surrender five runs in the inning.  Morrison gave up the lead when Neb Brown homered to right, scoring Aharon Eggleston and Austin Easley (pictured center, right and left).  Eggleston’s run was charged to Davis , resulting in a loss for the left-handed reliever.

Schaumburg reliever Nat Harris did not fair much better in the eighth, allowing catcher Jason Belcher and pinch-runner Josiah Jones to score on an Eggleston single to center.  Jones was in to run for Pickering who walked to start the inning.

Reliever Brett Reid picked up his second win while Matt Schweitzer and Dan Jackson pitched scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth.

The two teams will conclude the season tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.  Drew Dickinson will go for the Flyers and the T-Bones will counter with Lavon Lewis.
