T-Bones Complete Series Victory With 9-5 Win Over Lincoln

07/27/2003 11:29 AM - Nate Sevier pitched five innings of relief to earn his fifth victory of the season in the T-Bones’ 9-5 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs Sunday night. The win gave Kansas City the series victory as they took three of four games from the Saltdogs.

The game featured plenty of offense as both starting pitchers struggled to find ways to hold the opposing offense at bay. Lincoln started the scoring in the first inning with two runs off of starter Jayson Sigley. That inning was highlighted by Bryan Warner’s league leading twelfth home run of the season to right field.

The T-Bones answered every inning Lincoln scored a run with runs of their own in the bottom half of the same inning. Rick Prieto’s RBI double tied the game in the bottom of the first inning by scoring Eddie Pearson after Taber Maier scored on a passed ball.

With the T-Bones leading 4-3, Jayson Sigley was relieved in the fifth inning after he surrendered a double to Josh Patton and walked Paul Powell. Nate Sevier came on and immediately got Eddy De Los Santos to ground into a double play. However, Franklin German stepped up and hit a two run homer off of Sevier (5-4) to put Lincoln ahead 5-4.

The T-Bones would answer once again in the bottom of the inning by scoring four runs and taking the lead for good. Lincoln starter Darren Truty (2-3) left the game after Rodney Clifton hit his sixth homer of the season to tie the game at five, and Jack Jones walked. Reliever Nat Stoner did not fare any better as he gave up three straight hits to Chad Shindle, Skip Adams, and David Keesee. Adams recorded his first RBI in his first game as a T-Bone with his double to left field that scored Jones. That hit put Kansas City ahead for good 7-5.

The runs stopped in the final three innings of play as relievers Alan Oschner and Mick Pageler for Lincoln, and Sevier for Kansas City did not give up any runs after the score was set at 9-5. Sevier got Franklin German to ground into a game ending force out that capped off yet another winning home series for Kansas City. They remain one game ahead of Fargo for the Western Division lead.

The team now travels to Winnipeg where they will play a three game series with the Goldeyes starting Tuesday. The series will feature the teams with the two best records in the league for the second half of the season. Tony Gomes gets the start for Kansas City and looks to continue the T-Bones recent hot streak. The team will return August 5 when they will begin a ten game homestand.
