07/26/2003 11:28 AM - Jack Jones’ two out, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning broke a 6-6 tie and eventually won the game in Kansas City’s 8-7 triumph over Lincoln Saturday night.

Jones’ fourth home run of the season came one inning after Jason Davis relinquished a T-Bones lead for the second straight night. Davis (1-1) came on in relief of starter Erik Grunwald in the top of the seventh. Bryan Warner and Darren Doskocil led off the inning with singles. Each would steal a base to put runners on second and third with nobody out. Josh Patton’s RBI groundout scored Warner to make the score 6-5. Paul Powell then hit a fly ball to center that scored Doskocil to tie the game at six.

After Rick Prieto singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh and Rodney Clifton struck out, Jack Jones stepped up to the plate. He sent Skip Weast’s (0-1) two out pitch over the left field wall to put Kansas City ahead for good.

The scoring got started early in the game when Lincoln scored two quick runs in the first. Eddy De Los Santos followed by leading off the second inning with his first homer of the season. That bomb gave Lincoln a 3-0 lead before Kansas City could even manage a hit.

The T-Bones broke out in the bottom of the second inning, however, by recording five runs and six hits with two outs. The inning was highlighted by Taber Maier’s fourth homer of the season that nearly won a fan a million dollars. The ball hit the bottom of a sign that holds the “bulls-eye” through which a ball needs to travel in order to win the money.

D.J. Johnson came on in the eighth inning and finished the game to record his eleventh save of the season. Bryan Warner’s RBI single off of Johnson marked only the fourth appearance in which D.J. has allowed a run. That cut the lead to 8-7, but the Saltdogs would get no closer as Johnson pitched a perfect ninth inning to end the game.

The two teams play the final game of the four game series tomorrow evening at 5:05 p.m. Thanks to Fargo’s loss to Winnipeg, the T-Bones once again hold sole possession of first place. Jayson Sigley goes for the T-Bones and will be matched by Darren Truty.
