JackHammers Take First Game of Twin Bill

08/30/2006 9:00 PM - JOLIET, Ill. - The Joliet JackHammers (39-52, 23-20) scored five fourth-inning runs and cruised to a 5-1 victory behind the pitching of Eddie Oropesa to stop the Kansas City T-Bones' (44-46, 22-20) five-game win streak Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader at Silver Cross Field. With the loss, the T-Bones fell a half-game behind the JackHammers in the East Division pennant race.

T-Bones' starter Jonathan Krysa (13-4) looked to be his usual, dominant self early on in the contest, yielding just one hit through the games' first three innings. But the Northern League's win leader ran into trouble in the fourth, as the JackHammers plated five runs on seven hits in the inning to seize control of the first game of the critical three-game set. Greg Stevens put Joliet on the board with an RBI-groundout, and Mike Goss, John Lackaff, Jose Amado and Rob Stratton delivered RBI-singles to give Oropesa all the support he would need.

Oropesa (2-0) scattered six hits and permitted just one run on Greg Jacobs' fifth-inning ground-out to pick up the victory. The veteran left-hander struck out six and walked three in the complete-game effort.

The T-Bones send RHP Hank Woodman (4-4, 5.32) to the mound to oppose Joliet RHP Matt Smith (4-4, 5.54) in game two of the doubleheader. Be sure to catch all the action on "The Light" 1030 AM, or on the internet at tbonesbaseball.com.
