T-Bones Take Fourth Straight with 3-2 Victory

08/25/2006 10:52 PM - KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Craig Hurba’s ninth-inning triple drove in the game-winning run Friday evening, giving the Kansas City T-Bones (43-45, 21-19) a 3-2 victory over Gary SouthShore (43-44, 19-20)- their fourth straight- in front of 6,106 spectators at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Following Pat Magness' one-out single, Hurba lined Kris Regas’ 2-1 pitch deep into the left-center field gap to drive home pinch-runner Robbie Knapp with the game winner. With the win the T-Bones remain tied for first in the East Division with Joliet, who defeated Schaumburg by a 4-1 score.

Kansas City struck first again Friday, marking the fourth game in a row the T-Bones have scored before their opponent. With two men out in the fourth, J.D. Foust drove home Charles Peterson- who singled to lead off the frame- with a base-hit to right-center field to put Kansas City on the board. Moments later, Gary hurler Travis Kerber unleashed a wild pitch that allowed Hurba to score from third giving the home team a 2-0 lead.

T-Bones’ starter Greg Bicknell held the RailCats scoreless over the first six innings, working around a two-on, no-out situation in the sixth to preserve the two-run advantage.

But the veteran right-hander gave up a lead-off single to Tanner Townsend in the eighth, and Steve Haake made him pay, belting his sixth home run of the season over the right-field wall to even the score.

The Kansas City bullpen came up big for the fourth game in a row, as Jaime Jones and Loagn McElwain struck out the final two batters of the eighth with the go-ahead run in scoring position to keep it a 2-2 ballgame.

McElwain (2-3) fanned two of the four batters he faced and retired the side in order in the ninth to set the stage for Hurba’s heroics.

Saturday evening at CommunityAmerica Ballpark the T-Bones and RailCats will do battle in the second game of their three-game set. RHP Hank Woodman (3-4, 5.91) will face off against Gary right-hander Jason Shelley (11-7, 3.83) in a 7:05 p.m. contest.

Game Notes: Kris Regas saw action in his 50th game of the year Friday night for Gary to break the Northern League’s single-season record for appearances, previously held by Schaumburg’s Evan Fahrner (2002).
