Sosebee, Hurba Boost T-Bones Offense in 9-4 Victory

08/23/2006 10:12 PM - KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Chad Sosebee drove home the go-ahead run for the second straight night, and Craig Hurba delivered another critical grand slam to help the Kansas City T-Bones (41-45, 19-19) knock off the Schaumburg Flyers (43-42, 12-25), 9-4 Wednesday evening before a crowd of 5,479 spectators at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

One night after giving Kansas City a 3-2 victory with a 10th inning walk-off home run, Sosebee broke a four-all tie in the bottom of the sixth inning when he hammered a Dave Dobosz offering into the right-center field gap for an RBI-triple.

An inning later, Hurba blasted his second late-inning grand slam in the last three weeks off a Schaumburg reliever to seal a T-Bones’ victory. In an 11-9 win over the Flyers on August 6, Hurba hit an eighth-inning grand slam onto the batter’s eye in center field for his second homer of that contest.

T-Bones starter Jonathan Krysa (13-3) once again turned in a solid effort, allowing four runs (three earned) while striking out 10 batters over his eight innings to earn his Northern League-best 13th victory. Krysa (pictured) has now won his last five starts, completing at least eight innings in each of his last four outings.

With the victory, the T-Bones inched closer to East Divison leader Joliet, which dropped a 4-2 decision at Edmonton Wednesday. The T-Bones are now tied with Gary SouthShore for second place, just a half-game behind the JackHammers.

Kansas City got an early lift from Charles Peterson, who clubbed a three-run homer into the visiting bullpen in left-center field in the bottom of the first inning for a 3-0 T-Bones lead.

Schaumburg responded in the second, taking advantage of Sosebee’s fielding error and a pair of walks to trim the T-Bones’ advantage to 3-2.

The T-Bones’ two-out rally in the bottom of the third netted their fourth run of the contest. Pat Magness coaxed a walk from Dobosz before Hurba and Darryl Lawhorn singled to make it a 4-2 contest. But Nelson Gord came through for Schaumburg in the sixth with a two-out, two-run double off the left-field wall that brought home Justin Hendrickson and Ryan Walker to even the score.

Dobosz (2-5) was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs on nine hits in his 5 1/3 innings.

The T-Bones and Flyers will conclude their three-game set Thursday evening with a 7:05 p.m. contest at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. RHP Larry Robles (3-4, 3.72) will take the mound for Kansas City, while Schaumburg will counter with LHP Rick DeHart (5-4, 5.75).
