08/22/2006 11:30 PM - KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Chad Sosebee’s lead-off homer in the bottom of the 10th inning propelled the Kansas City T-Bones (40-45, 18-19) to a 3-2 victory over the Schaumburg Flyers (43-41, 12-24) Tuesday evening before 6,265 spectators at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Sosebee (click here to view the home run) belted the second pitch he saw from Flyers’ reliever Dan Jackson (5-3) over the left field wall to cap 3-for-5 night and give the T-Bones a much needed win following a 1-5 road trip. Coupled with Joliet’s double-header split at Edmonton, the victory allowed Kansas City to draw to within 1.5 games of the East Division lead with 11 contests left in the regular season.

The T-Bones got a solid outing from starter Hank Woodman, who struck out 11 hitters while giving up just two runs over seven innings.

Kansas City jumped on top in the first when Doug Dreher led-off the frame with the first of his two hits on the night, advanced to second on a walk to Greg Jacobs, then came home on Pat Magness’ run-scoring single to right to give the home team the early 1-0 lead.

The Flyers answered in the top of the third, as Nelson Gord drew a lead-off walk before Rob Marconi tripled him home to even the score. Woodman escaped what easily could have turned into a big inning when he struckout Chris Weekly and Eric Cole to end the threat.

Dreher put the T-Bones back in front in the fourth with a sacrifice fly that brought home Sosebee after a Ryan Walker fielding error to lead-off the inning set up the scoring opportunity.

Woodman was effectively wild most of the evening, walking seven batters but escaping major damage by getting key strikeouts to end scoring threats on several occasions. But with two out in the seventh, Cole launched a ball deep into the left-center field gap for a double, and Josue Lopez followed with a two-bagger of his own to knot the score at 2-2.

Kansas City’s bullpen took over in the eighth and held the Schaumburg offense in check the rest of the way. The trio of Logan McElwain, Jaime Jones and James Morrison combined to hold the Flyers scoreless on just two hits in their three innings of work.

But McElwain needed the help of two outstanding defensive plays turned in by T-Bones' outfielders to keep the Flyers off the board in the eighth. With one out and runners on the corners, Sandy Almonte hit what normally would have been a sacrifice fly to center field, but Jacobs' throw to the plate was on-line and froze Walker at third. Next, Marconi hit a ball deep into the left-center field gap that looked like a sure two-run double. But Zach Norman made an astonishing diving catch on the edge of the warning track to end the inning and preserve the tie.

Morrison (4-3) earned the win after working around a two-out, Tim Marks single in the top of the tenth.

Game Notes: Tuesday’s crowd of 6,265 brought the T-Bones total attendance for the season to 244,405, just nine shy of the club’s all-time record, set last year.
