08/19/2006 10:11 PM - WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeye centerfielder Fehlandt Lentini had a perfect Saturday night, going 4-for-4 as the Goldeyes (43-39, 16-18) held off the Kansas City T-Bones (39-44, 17-18), 6-2, in front of 6,621 at CanWest Global Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Lentini set the tone with his feet early on, pounding an infield single off the dirt in front of home plate to start the bottom of the first inning. When the next batter up, Ryan Hamilton, hit a soft comebacker to T-Bones starter Larry Robles with Lentini in motion, the speedster advanced to third and scored when T-Bone first baseman Charles Peterson's throw sailed wide of the bag. Winnipeg extended their first-inning margin to 2-0 when Greg Sain's single to left scored Jimmy Hurst, who had singled to right.

Lentini would drive in a total of three runs with a third-inning sacrifice fly and an eighth-inning triple, his eleventh of the season. Lentini is now 21-for-39 (.538) against the T-Bones in 2006.

After allowing three runs to Winnipeg in the first two innings, Robles settled down, retiring ten batters in a row until Lentini's fifth-inning single. Robles (L, 4-5) worked 6.1 IP, scattering nine hits while striking out two.

The T-Bones could muster just one run against Goldeye starter Josh Beshears, who struck out eight in his 6.1 IP. Beshears allowed only a fourth-inning sacrifice fly to Doug Dreher, which cut the margin in the game to 3-1, before exiting in the seventh with runners on first and second and one out. It took just one pitch for Winnipeg reliever Howard Pence to get out of that jam, as he induced a double play ground ball from Zach Norman to end the frame.

Winnipeg scored three times in the bottom of the eighth inning against a trio of T-Bones relievers to increase the Kansas City deficit to 6-1, and while the T-Bones scored a ninth-inning run on Chad Sosebee's single to right, the rally against lefty reliever Joe Brown fell short.

The first-place Joliet JackHammers dropped their contest with Gary, 5-1, which means that the T-Bones, who started tonight's play 1 1/2 games back, do not lose any ground in the East Division second-half race.

Notes: T-Bones outfielder Greg Jacobs returned from his five-game suspension, and saw his 25-game on-base streak and 11-game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-for-4 night... J.D.
