08/16/2006 4:47 PM - CALGARY – The Calgary Vipers (31-47, 12-18) used a four-run seventh inning rally to seal a 6-1 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones (38-41, 16-15) in the first game of a day-night double-header Wednesday afternoon at Foothills Stadium.

Leading by just a single run entering the bottom of the seventh, Calgary put its first two batters aboard via singles to chase T-Bones’ starter Hank Woodman from the contest and set up its game-clinching rally. Reliever Buddy Blair unleashed a wild pitch to set the stage for Aaron McEachran’s sac-fly to center that pushed the lead to 3-1. James Morrison fared no better, walking Sharnol Adriana, then issuing an intentional pass to Carlos Duncan to load the bases. Next, Drew Miller delivered the biggest blow of the contest, lining a 2-0, Morrison offering down the right-field line for a three-run triple that provided the final 6-1 margin.

Calgary got a lift from starting pitcher Brad Rogers (5-0), who held the T-Bones to just one run on three hits over six innings to pick up the win in his first start of the season. Kieran Mattison worked the final three innings, holding Kansas City hitless and allowing just one baserunner to earn his second save of the year.

The Vipers jumped on top in the bottom of the first inning when Darryl Brinkley drew a lead-off walk and came home on McEachran’s RBI-single to claim a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Calgary took advantage of a back-to-back errors by Darryl Lawhorn and Chad Sosebee to score their second run of the contest off Woodman.

Kansas City’s lone run came in the fifth inning, as Sosebee followed a lead-off walk to Lawhorn with a double down the left-field line to set up the T-Bones only serious scoring threat of the game. But as Doug Dreher’s sacrifice-fly to left put the T-Bones on the board, Sosebee got caught in a run-down between second and third base and was eventually tagged out to squelch the rally.

Woodman (3-4) suffered the loss for the T-Bones after allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits in his six-plus innings of work.

McEachran (2-for-2, 2 RBI) and Miller (2-for-4, 3 RBI) paced Calgary’s offense, while Pat Magness posted two of the T-Bones' three hits on the afternoon to lead the visitors.
