Goldeyes Take Series Finale 7-4

08/13/2006 8:59 PM - KANSAS CITY – The Kansas City T-Bones (38-40, 16-14) dropped the final game of a three-game set with the Winnipeg Goldeyes (40-37, 13-16) in front of 5,925 fans Sunday evening at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

It took Winnipeg just three minutes to score the first run of the game. After hitting a triple to centerfield, Goldeyes’ centerfielder Fehlandt Lentini scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Ryan Hamilton.

The T-Bones answered back in their half of the second. After back-to-back singles to open the inning, and a one-out walk by Pat Magness, Craig Hurba singled to left field to score Zach Norman. A fielding error by Winnipeg catcher Matt Mann allowed J.D. Foust to score on the play as well. After the first frame, the T-Bones held a 2-1 lead.

Kansas City’s offense continued to be productive in the second. A leadoff double to right field by Doug Dreher turned into a run thanks to a double to left-centerfield by Norman. Dreher scored from second on the play to give the T-Bones a 3-1 lead after two innings.

The Goldeyes drew closer in the top of the third inning, plating one run on two hits and a T-Bone error to draw within one at 3-2. In response, Kansas City’s Craig Hurba took sole possession of the team lead in home runs, as his 17th long bomb of the season sailed over the left field wall, boosting the Kansas City lead to 4-2.

Winnipeg wouldn’t go away quietly, scoring single runs in the fourth, fifth, and three in the seventh to take a 7-4 lead into the seventh inning stretch. Goldeye pitchers, meanwhile, allowed just two hits in the game’s final six innings.

When the game resumed, neither team could get their offenses fired back up. The T-Bones squeaked out one run after the delay while the Goldeyes went hitless.

T-Bones starter Larry Robles (4-4) pitched 6.1 innings, giving up eight hits and seven runs, six of which were earned. Robles walked two and struckout three in his fourth loss of the season. Josh Beshears (8-3) earned the win while Josh Kite picked up the save.

The T-Bones will take Monday off before heading to Canada for three-game stints at Calgary and Winnipeg, respectively. Be sure to follow all the action as Loren Foxx brings you the play-by-play on 1030 AM “The Light” in Kansas City, or online at www.tbonesbaseball.com.
