07/13/2003 11:18 AM - Jayson Sigley picked up his first victory of the season and Taber Maier had four RBI in the Kansas City T-Bones’ 8-4 triumph over the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks. The win gives Kansas City the series victory in their first series of the second half of the Northern League season.

Sigley (1-2) held Fargo, the league’s top offense, to only one extra base hit. That hit came off of the bat of Eddie Gerald who sent his second homer in as many games over the left field wall in the fourth inning, scoring two runs. Fargo managed to scratch out another run against Sigley in the seventh before he gave way to Tony Gomes.

The offensive star of the game was Kansas City third baseman Taber Maier. In his first three at-bats, Maier hit a two-run homer, a RBI double, and a RBI single that left him just a triple shy of the cycle in only the third inning. He would ground out and fly out in his last two at-bats however,, coming just short of joining Rick Prieto as the only T-Bones to hit for the cycle. Prieto accomplished the feat June 20 at Lincoln.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Mark Teson sent a line drive into left field. Eddie Gerald tracked it but had it bounce off of his glove. The play was scored a double, giving Teson his first hit as a T-Bone. He managed to single in the seventh inning as well for a total of two hits on the evening.

Chad Shindle, Rick Prieto, and Bao Vinh were the other T-Bones to register RBI’s in a game where the T-Bones scored early and often. They chased Fargo starter Derek Dormanen (1-1) from the game with one out in the second inning. Before Fargo could manage their second hit, Kansas City had a 7-0 lead.

All-Star D.J. Johnson came in to close out the game in the ninth inning. He got Fargo shortstop Brian Sprout to strike out swinging to end the game, much to the delight of the 7213 fans in attendance. Kansas City is off tomorrow, but resumes their homestand Tuesday versus the Lincoln Saltdogs. That game will start at 7:05 p.m.
