Robles, T-Bones Ground Flyers in 7-1 Win

08/05/2006 10:06 PM - KANSAS CITY – The T-Bones (32-37, 10-11) posted 12 hits while Larry Robles allowed three hits in seven shutout innings in a 7-1 win over the Schaumburg Flyers (40-29, 9-12) as 7,809 fans cheered them on Saturday evening at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The T-Bones struck first, dismantling a third inning no-hitter by peppering Schaumburg starter Matt Bailie for five hits and four runs as Kansas City batted through their lineup. After a leadoff double to left field, Doug Dreher came home on a single to left by Chad Sosebee to open the scoring. Three batters later, Sosebee and Zach Norman scored when a hit to centerfield by J.D. Foust snuck past Schaumburg’s centerfielder and rolled to the warning track. Foust would score from third when Greg Jacobs grounded to shortstop. After the dust settled, the T-Bones held a 4-0 lead after three innings.

Foust and Sosebee spelled bad news for the Flyers again in the fourth. After reaching base on a walk, Sosebee scored from second on an RBI single to left field by Foust, who was tagged out in a rundown between second and third

The T-Bones got two more insurance runs in the seventh, and once again Foust was a part of it. After a leadoff double to the left field corner, Norman scored when Charles Peterson hit into a fielder’s choice. Foust, who was hit by a pitch, scored from third when Eddie Pearson singled to right field, giving the T-Bones a 7-0 advantage after seven innings.

Schaumburg scored its first and only run of the game in the eighth inning off of reliever Jaime Jones. Rob Marconi led off the inning with a single and scored on a single by centerfielder Ben Van Iderstine. The T-Bones led 7-1 going into the bottom of the eighth inning.

T-Bones starter Larry Robles (4-3) baffled Schaumburg batters during his time on the mound. The right hander gave up just three hits and didn’t allow a run in 7.0 innings of work. Robles struckout seven and issued just three walks as he earned his fourth win of the season, and his first win since June 3.

The T-Bones will conclude their series with Schaumburg Sunday evening. Hank Woodman will take the mound for Kansas City, while the Blake Williams will get the nod from the Flyers coaching staff. The first pitch is slated for 5:05 p.m. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
