T-Bones, JackHammers suspended due to weather

08/02/2006 9:47 PM - KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones series finale with the Joliet JackHammers Wednesday evening was suspended due to inclement weather and field conditions with Joliet leading 6-5 in the top of the fifth inning. The game will be completed next week as part of a double-header when the T-Bones visit Joliet for a four-game series.

Before the weather intervened, the two clubs traded offensive blows for the game's first four innings, entertaining the crowd of 4,526 spectators by combining for 11 runs and 15 hits.

The JackHammers jumped on top early, scoring two runs in each of the first three innings. Rob Stratton brought home the first run of the game with a sacrifice-fly, and Maikel Jova followed with a run-scoring single to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage.

Kansas City scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the first, highlighted by Darryl Lawhorn's run-scoring single and Greg Jacob's RBI-double. But Joliet bounced right back into the scoring column on Dennis Blackmon's lead-off homer in the second, then added another run on a John Lackaff base-hit to left to reclaim the lead. Chris Brown added a two-out two-run single the following inning to stake the JackHammers to a 6-3 lead.

The T-Bones drew closer in the bottom of the third when Charles Peterson drove in Lawhorn with an RBI-double down the left-field line and, two batters later, Craig Hurba delivered a single that plated Peterson and cut the margin to 6-5.

Tickets from Wednesday night's game may be exchanged for tickets of equal or lesser value for any future T-Bones game upon availability and may be purchased at www.tbonesbaseball.com, the T-Bones ticket office, or via phone at (913)328-5618.
