06/25/2006 8:25 PM - KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones (16-20) dropped a 10-2 decision in the rubber match of their three-game series with the Gary SouthShore RailCats (15-20) Sunday evening before a crowd of 6,004 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The T-Bones wasted little time in jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Gary starter Sazi Guthrie struggled with his command early in the contest, walking Jesse Acosta and Greg Jacobs to set up Charles Peterson’s RBI double to right-center to give the home team the early advantage.

Gary SouthShore struck back in the top of the second, tying the game on Andy Rohleder’s lead-off homer, then taking a 2-1 lead when Steve Booth drove in Chris Curry with a two-out doubled to right-center. The RailCats kept the two-out magic going in the third, as Tanner Townsend’s run-scoring single to left brought home Jermaine Allensworth and stretched the Gary advantage to 3-1.

The RailCats capitalized on the T-Bones’ charity to break the game wide open over the next three innings. Kevin White’s two-run single brought home two runs in the fourth and knocked Kansas City starter Eric Ebers from the game. With the help of three walks and an error, the RailCats would tack on two more runs in the inning to take a six-run lead. Two more errors would help Gary SouthShore put three runs on the board in the sixth, giving the RailCats a commanding 10-2 advantage.

Ebers (0-1) took the loss after allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits in three-plus innings. Guthrie (1-0) picked up his first win for Gary SouthShore, working five innings and giving up just two runs on three hits, despite walking seven batters.

Kansas City will hit the road for a nine-game road swing, beginning Monday evening at 8:05 p.m. in Calgary. The T-Bones will hand the ball to Greg Bicknell (3-4, 4.08) in the opener. Catch all the action on “The Light” 1030 AM or live on the web at www.tbonesbaseball.com.


Game Notes: Charles Peterson extended his hit streak to 10 games with a 2-for-5 performance, and concluded a seven-game homestand that saw the T-Bones’ first-baseman hit .452 (14-for-31) with a pair of home runs and eight RBI…The T-Bones drew 41,881 fans, for an average crowd of 5,983 over their seven-game homestand and finished with a 4-3 record…Kansas City fell to 1-5 in Sunday games this season…Greg Jacobs went 2-for-4 Sunday and finished the homestand batting .433 (13-for-30) with three homers and nine RBI.
