06/15/2006 10:55 PM - SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Kansas City T-Bones (10-16) pulled out a 2-1 victory on Pat Magness’ ninth-inning solo home run to salvage the final game of their three-game series with the Schaumburg Flyers (17-9) Thursday evening at Alexian Field.

The contest got off to an interesting start, as it was discovered in the second inning that Schaumburg manager Andy McCauley left starting pitcher Raymond Jenkins off his lineup card, thereby vacating both Jenkins and the DH spot in the Flyers’ batting order for the remainder of the game. Although Jenkins had previously beaten the T-Bones in the two clubs’ first series of the season, his early departure certainly didn’t faze reliever Jason Brunke, who allowed just one run on four hits in his five innings of relief.

Kansas City got on the board in the fifth, when Doug Dreher doubled off the right field wall to bring home Magness with the games’ first run.

T-Bones’ starter Buddy Blair failed to factor in the decision, but turned in his third straight quality start, facing the minimum number of Schaumburg hitters through the first five innings. In all, the left-hander gave up just a single run in the seventh, when Nelson Gord led-off with a triple to right field, then scored on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Walker to knot the score at 1-1.

James Morrison (1-0) earned the victory after getting Gord to ground into a 6-4-3 double-play to end Schaumburg’s bases-loaded threat in the bottom of the eighth inning. That set the stage for Magness’ heroics in the ninth, as the Overland Park native pounded a Dan Jackson (2-1) offering over the left-center field wall to put the T-Bones back on top.

Byron Embry was back in form in the bottom half of the inning, striking out the side in order to put an exclamation point on the 2-1 victory. The save was Embry’s fourth of the season.

Tomorrow Kansas City will make the short trip to Gary for the first of a three-game series with the RailCats. RHP Jonathan Krysa (3-2, 3.86) will take the mount for the T-Bones, while Gary will counter with RHP Sazi Guthrie (0-0, 0.00).
