06/09/2006 4:30 PM - KANSAS CITY, Kan. – In the wake of OF Michael Spidale’s signing with the Philadelphia Phillies, the Kansas City T-Bones agreed to terms with Overland Park native Pat Magness. Manager "Dirty" Al Gallagher also signed rookie outfielder Millard Dawson out of the University of Montevallo (AL), the club announced today.

A six-year minor league veteran, Magness brings a left-handed presence along with a .277 career average to the T-Bones batting order after spending the last two seasons in the Pirates organization, posting career-highs in nearly every major offensive category a year ago at Class A Lynchburg. In 133 games with the Hillcats, the former Wichita State All-American hit .308 with 24 home runs and 92 RBI while leading the Carolina League in walks (141) and on-base percentage (.481). Magness, 28, also ranked among the circuit’s leaders in runs scored (2nd), doubles (2nd) and slugging percentage (3rd).

Taken by Florida in the 12th round of the 2000 draft, Magness spent his first four seasons as a professional in the Marlins organization, advancing as high as Double-A Carolina (Southern League) in 2003 before signing with Cleveland the following year.

A Shawnee Mission South graduate, Magness enjoyed a standout collegiate career with the Shockers, garnering first-team All-America honors as a sophomore in 1998, when he led the nation with a .467 batting average.

Dawson, 23, played two seasons at Montevallo, batting .361 in 42 games this spring. The Montgomery native was a Gulf South Conference All-Academic Team selection in 2006.
