06/14/2006 10:50 PM - SCHAUMBURG, ILL. – The T-Bones held Schaumburg at bay for the better part of seven innings Wednesday night, but gave the Flyers five runs and the win in the eighth inning, falling 7-3 in front of 3,341 fans at Alexian Field.

Kansas City (9-16) broke a scoreless tie, and a 17-inning scoreless streak, in the top of the fourth, as an Eddie Pearson blast to right field gave the T-Bones a 2-0 lead. Craig Hurba followed Pearson with a solo shot of his own, boosting the Kansas City lead to 3-0.

Schaumburg (17-8) responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth, and added another in the seventh, narrowing the T-Bones lead to one going into the eighth inning.

After keeping the Flyers guessing throughout the first seven innings of the game, Greg Bicknell began to struggle in the eighth, as the right-hander gave up two runs and the lead before logging an out.

One day after getting the T-Bones out of a bases-loaded jam with no outs, Caleb Balbuena was called to relieve Bicknell and to get the T-Bones out of another jam. This time, Balbuena gave up three hits and allowed three runs, putting the Flyers up 7-3. Balbuena was replaced by Ryan Tauscher, who recorded two outs and set the stage for Logan McElwain’s professional debut. The Olathe native promptly retired Schaumburg with his first professional strikeout to end the eighth inning.

Bicknell (1-4) took the loss for Kansas City. The veteran pitched seven innings allowing five hits and four runs, all earned, while striking out eight and walking four.

The T-Bones have one more shot at the division-leading Flyers. The clubs will conclude the three-game series with a 7:05 contest Thursday evening. Buddy Blair (1-4, 6.46) will take the bump for Kansas City, while Raymond Jenkins (3-0, 2.81) gets the starting nod for Schaumburg.
