Viane Masterful in 5-0 Blanking of Joliet

With the bullpen struggling as of late, converted reliever and present T-Bones starter David Viane (W, 5-4) gave his pen mates a much needed rest by going the distance and shutting out Joliet in the T-Bones' 5-0 victory over the JackHammers Thursday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

In making his sixth start of the season, Viane befuddled the JackHammer bats with his patented sinker allowing only six hits in the contest, all singles. In his best performance of the year, Viane struck out three and walked a batter. Viane faced thirty-three batters and induced ground balls from twenty of them.

Eric Vega staked Viane to an early 1-0 advantage with his RBI double in the third. The T-Bones scored a single run in the fourth but would not score again until an explosive eighth inning. David Segui, Brandon Jones and Matt Ceriani all went yard with solo shots extending the lead to 5-0. Every T-Bones starter with the exception of Greg Jacobs had at least one hit in the contest, a much needed victory after last night’s ninth inning debacle.

Joliet starter Ben Moore (L, 3-5) pitched well but picked a bad night to go up against Viane. Moore pitched six innings allowing only two earned runs including a run scoring wild pitch in the fourth. Former Royals outfielder Jermaine Allensworth did the most damage for Joliet notching two singles in his four plate appearances.

The teams resume the four-game series with tomorrow’s 7:05 match up. Jonathan Krysa will take the hill for the T-Bones and Nathan Kent will start for Joliet.

Notes: Ray Brown and Rick Prieto extended their respective hitting streaks to seven games... Brandon Jones' solo shot was his team-leading ninth of the season... Viane’s shutout was the third the T-Bones have thrown this year...
