Ultimate Baseball Challenge Ends in...

07/20/2005 5:55 PM - The T-Bones won Saturday night's game, 8-7, picking up a much-needed win over Schaumburg. But the virtual T-Bones couldn't hang on, with the Flyers smacking a two-run homer in the top of the ninth and the T-Bones not having an answer back.

Matt Ceriani hammered a homer deep to left in the bottom of the eighth to give the virtual T-Bones a 9-7 lead in the game. In the real Saturday night game, Nate Ruhl came on to close the door on Schaumburg. In the virtual affair, Joe Goodmann stayed on and surrendered a two-run shot to Jarrod Patterson to make the game a tie. The T-Bones couldn't muster a run in the bottom of the inning.

The game was declared a tie so that a post-game fireworks extravaganza could take place at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Notable in the game were the theatrics provided by T-Bone outfielder Greg Jacobs. Jacobs, who had struck out just nine times in 96 at-bats as of Sunday, witnessed his virtual likeness go down swinging. The real Jacobs threw down his equipment in mock disgust at his virtual self.

In the real game, neither team scored a run in the final two frames; the virtual bullpens couldn't close the door, allowing three runs in the final two innings.
