Tanner Townsend doubled in two runs in the bottom of the tenth inning to give the Gary SouthShore RailCats an 9-8 win over the Kansas City T-Bones. The RailCats scored three in the bottom of the ninth inning against closer Nate Ruhl (L, 0-1) to tie the game until Ray Brown's homer for the T-Bones put the T-Bones ahead in the top of the tenth.

Kansas City got a solid pitching performance from starter Jon McDonald, who worked eight innings and allowed just two earned runs while striking out four. McDonald left the game in position to earn his fourth win of the season.

The T-Bones had taken a 5-1 lead in the game with a four-run fourth inning against RailCat starter Willie Glen. The T-Bones got run-scoring singles from Sean Flynn and Cody Nowlin as well as a Chad Sosebee sacrifice fly and a wild pitch to score Brandon Jones.

But the RailCats fought back with single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings against McDonald before he left with a 7-4 lead.

In the ninth, Ruhl walked Curt Lee to start the inning and Lee would come in to score on Townsend's fielder's choice. Three batters later, Steve Haake lined a double to right-center that scored two runs and almost ended the game, but pinch-runner David Weiner was thrown out at the plate with the potential winning run.

Reliever Travis Kerber, who struck out the only batter he faced in the tenth, picked up his fourth win of the season.

With the loss, the T-Bones remain 1/2 game behind the St. Paul Saints. Gary and Lincoln are each 1 1/2 games behind the Saints.

Tomorrow night's game is a 6:00 game in Gary, with David Viane on the mound for the T-Bones opposing RailCat hurler Jamie Bennett.
