With a solid eight-inning effort from starter Jonathan Krysa (W, 3-6) and some timely hitting, the Kansas City T-Bones remained 1/2 game behind the St. Paul Saints in the first-half South Division pennant race with a 6-3 win over the Schaumburg Flyers in front of 2,535 at Alexian Field in Schaumburg, Ill.

The T-Bones used a season-high three sacrifice flies in the game, none more important than Matt Ceriani's eighth-inning fly to right that brought Greg Jacobs home with the tying run. After Sean Flynn walked to load the bases, Chad Sosebee chopped a double over the head of first baseman Justin Hendrickson to score two runs and give the T-Bones a 5-3 lead.

After Schaumburg scored the first run in the game, the T-Bones scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings against southpaw starter R.J. Swindle. Greg Jacobs brought home the first run when he tripled to right and scored on a Brandon Jones sacrifice fly, the first of the game. The go-ahead run scored in the fifth inning when Sean Flynn doubled and scored on a two-out single by Mike Brown.

But Kansas City nemesis Justin Hendrickson struck back in the bottom of the eighth inning, homering to left with one on against Krysa to put Schaumburg ahead 3-2. Hendrickson has now hit eight home runs and driven in eighteen runs against the T-Bones in the last two seasons.

The T-Bones weren't finished, however, scoring three in the eighth and an insurance run in the ninth inning before entrusting the game to closer Nate Ruhl, who struck out two in the ninth while earning his second save as a T-Bone.

Reliever Lyle Prempas, who left with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning, took his third loss of the season for the Flyers in as many decisions.

The T-Bones are off Thursday before heading around Lake Michigan to take on the Gary SouthShore RailCats in a three-game series to end the first half of the season. The series opener will take place Friday night at 7:00 pm and will be broadcast live on tbonesbaseball.com as well as KCKN 1340 AM. Meanwhile, the St. Paul Saints will welcome the Lincoln Saltdogs for their final series of the half.
