KANSAS CITY 8, SIOUX FALLS 6

06/18/2003 10:05 AM - W: Tom Masterman (1-0) L: Matt Koziara (1-3) S: David Johnson (5)

HR: Rick Prieto (3), Curt Lee (1)

The Canaries quest for a three-game sweep over the T-Bones was put down by an explosive Kansas City offense, as they battled back for the 8-6 victory Wednesday night. The T-Bones had been limited to four runs in the first two games of the series but broke out in big fashion in the final contest. CF Rick Prieto, 2B Taber Maier and SS Jack Jones had three hits apiece, leading a 19-hit attack by the T-Bones. The heroics of Canaries 2B Curt Lee and 1B Greg Schelhaas, who went a combined 8-8 with three runs scored and three RBI, were wasted, as the Canaries could not overcome the steady output of offense by Kansas City. Lee was just a double shy of the cycle, including his first homer of the season. The Canaries entered the ninth inning trailing by three runs and after Lee led off the inning with a triple and scored on a past ball, Kansas City closer David Johnson retired the Canaries in order for his fifth save of the season.
