BATS UNABLE TO CAPITALIZE ON EARLY MOMENTUM, T-BONES DROP OPENER IN GARY

06/28/2019 10:03 PM -
GARY, Ind -- The T-Bones (20-19) couldn’t overcome a three-run first by the Gary SouthShore RailCats (17-21), as Kansas City struggled to capitalize on a number of opportunities and lost 3-2 on Friday night.

KC had its share of chances early on to put runs on the board, but the T-Bones left six runners on base over the first three frames, failing to score in the early innings against Gary starter Justin Sinibaldi (1-2). This would include leaving the bases loaded with just one out in the second. A three-run first for Gary, with RBI singles by Andy DeJesus and Raymond Jones would prove to be all they needed on offense to squeeze out a win.

The T-Bones would finally cash in and get one back in the top of the fourth when Dylan Tice beat out an infield chopper to bring home Mason Davis. Daniel Nava would tack on another run with his first home run of the season in the seventh. However, that would be it for KC as they threatened in the ninth but did not score.

The first inning notwithstanding, arguably the main bright spot of the night came from starting pitcher Henry Owens (1-1). At one point recording seven straight strikeouts, he would finish with 10 on the night, allowing three runs over five innings of work. The bullpen would work three scoreless innings on a combined effort from Marc Magliaro and Robert Calvano. A diving play by Danny Mars saved a run in the fifth, keeping it close for the T-Bones. Yet the offense couldn’t produce with runners in scoring position, leaving 11 total runners on base.

The T-Bones will continue their three-game set against Gary on Saturday, June 29 at 6:10 p.m. as Erik Manoah Jr. (2-1) will get the start for the T-Bones. Listen to it live on the T-Bones Broadcast Network.
