What a crazy day for the T-Bones. On a day in which the team lost its most prolific slugger in Eddie Pearson and said goodbye to its shutdown closer, Derek Forbes, the T-Bones surrendered a one run lead entering the ninth and allowed seven runs in the frame capped off by Tanner Towsend's grand slam. When the dust settled, the Gary-SouthShore RailCats won the ballgame 10-4 and handed the T-Bones their fourth loss in their last seven contests.

The T-Bones committed four errors in the game yet only trailed by two entering the bottom of the eighth. With two down and a runner on second, Chad Sosebee hit a clutch double to left to tie the game at three apiece. After an intentional walk to Rick Prieto, Kansas City Kansas CC's own Eric Vega slapped an RBI single to right and put the T-Bones ahead 4-3.

Prior to the ninth, reliever J.C. Ortiz (L, 1-2) retired six straight batters, three via strike out. The first two batters of the ninth reached against Ortiz, who gave way to reliever Adam Clay. After an intentional walk to load the bases, RailCat Tanner Townsend sent the 7,489 in attendance packing with a grand slam to left. Jose Yepez completed the scoring for Gary with a three-run homer against reliever Joe Goodmann.

Randy Vanderplow (W, 2-1) picked up the victory in relief for the RailCats pitching 1 1/3 innings allowing four hits and two runs. Derek Lopez finished off the game hurling a scoreless ninth for Gary.

Notes: Starter David Viane pitched well for the T-Bones going a career-long six innings scattering six hits while striking out two... Gary had defensive woes of their own in the game, committing four errors... after going 7-14 in his first four games, newcomer Greg Jacobs was 0-5 at the plate... Forbes was the first T-Bone picked up by a major league club this season, being signed by Baltimore; he will report to Class-A Delmarva of the South Atlantic League.
