Once again our “Voice of the T-Bones” Dan Vaughan brings you the top 10 moments from the booth from last season as we countdown the days until the opener. Some of these are obvious but one or two you just might have forgotten in the run to the trophy. Enjoy!
For most of the 2018 season, the T-Bones were near the top of the league in offense. KC would hit .295 as a team and finish second at the plate in the American Association. During game one of the 2018 Championship Series, the T-Bones showed why they finished with the second-best offense in the association.
The T-Bones fired the first shot in the first game of the best-of-five series. The game was over before the first bite of hot dog for the locals in St. Paul. The beer was still ice cold, and the nacho cheese had yet to drip on anyone’s leg. It took a Ryan Brett double then a Noah Perio Jr. two-run blast off ace Chris Nunn to make it 2-0 in the first. By the time the home folks were actually savoring the CHS Field concessions delights, the T-Bones were at it again. In the second it was a hit parade.

The Saints picked up a run in the second off Barrett Astin to cut the lead to 5-1. Astin would toss four more scoreless frames before being relieved in the sixth yet with a 10-1 lead. In the third, Alay Lago singled, moved up to third on a Keith Curcio single, then scored the sixth run of the game for the T-Bones as Anthony Phillips reached home on a two-out error by the third baseman, making the score 6-1. An inning later Mason Davis reached base after being hit by a pitch by Matt Solter who came in for Nunn. With Todd Cunningham up to bat, Davis moved to second on an error by the catcher. Cunningham then hit into a fielder’s choice, but an error by the first baseman allowed Davis to score. Suddenly, the ballpark snacks had to have the locals’ stomachs churning just a little with the T-Bones in the driver’s seat 7-1.
Next it was “pass the Pepto” time, as the T-Bones managed to make the Saints fans feel really sick at their stomachs.
From the game story:
The Saints picked up two late runs in the seventh, but it would soon be time for the St. Paul faithful to grab those bags that airlines have in their seatback pockets as Nieto would add another blast to make it 11-3, Kansas City. The Saints added a ninth inning run, but that was good for nothing more than breath mint as they exited the stadium. Kansas City defeated the Saints 11-4 at CHS Field, taking game one of the grand final behind former Saint Noah Perio Jr. and his two long balls and a whopping 20 hits by Kansas City. It was a great win to digest in Kansas City.
