KANSAS NATIVE TO HURL WITH T-BONES

KANSAS CITY, Kan.– The Kansas City T-Bones announced today that the club has signed right-handed pitcher and Coffeyville, Kansas native Dustin Hurlbutt for the 2019 season.

Dustin Hurlbutt comes to Kansas City after spending parts of four seasons with the Oakland Athletics organization. Hurlbutt was the 15th round pick by Oakland in the 2015 June draft out of Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas. He spent part of this winter in the Venezuelan Winter League, making two starts and covering a total of 5.2 innings. Last season Hurlbutt posted a 3-4 record with a 3.86 ERA in nine starts with Stockton in the California League. He would add 44.1 innings, giving up 37 hits and 19 earned runs with 39 strike outs.

In 2017 Hurlbutt saw action at three different levels of the A’s system.  At high A Stockton, Hurlbutt tossed 69.2 innings with 74 strike outs going 2-2 for the Ports with a 3.23 ERA.  In a one game stay at AAA Nashville, the right-hander made one start and gave up five earned runs in three innings. He would finish the season making nine starts at AA Midland in the Texas League, going 3-2 with a 3.74 ERA and 32 strikeouts.

Hurlbutt spent the entire 2016 season at low A Beloit in the Midwest League. In 19 games (14 starts) he pitched a career-high 98 innings with 78 strikeouts and a 2.57 ERA. In his first professional season, he would work in 14.1 innings with 20 strike outs and a 3.14 ERA with the Athletic rookie club in the Arizona League.

In his final season at Tabor, he went 10-3 with a 3.16 ERA in 88 innings with 108 strikeouts, and while at Tabor, he was named NAIA All-American and was a member of the Blue Jays club that reached the NAIA World Series. Hurlbutt also spent one season at Northeastern State University and graduated from Field Kindley High School in his hometown of Coffeyville, Kansas.

Wyandotte County residents will be able to purchase individual game tickets beginning Tuesday, March 19th at 10:00am and the General Public on Thursday, March 21st! Opening day for the T-Bones is set for Friday May 17th at T-Bones Stadium when the T-Bones host the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks to open the 2019 season.
