KANSAS CITY, Kan.– The Kansas City T-Bones announced today that the club has signed infielder/outfielder Nick Basto for the 2019 season.

Nick Basto spent parts of seven seasons with the Chicago White Sox organization, reaching AA Birmingham.  The native of Florida was the White Sox fifth round pick in 2012 out of Archbishop McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches, Florida. Basto just finished his most recent season (2018) where he split time with the White Sox Southern League club in Birmingham and the Washington Nationals High Club at Potomac in the Carolina League.

With the AA Barons, Basto played in 35 games, hitting one home run and knocking in eight runs before his release on June 18, 2018. He would hit .165 in his final season with the White Sox organization. At Potomac he would hit .212 with one homer and six RBIs in 19 games. His season was cut short because of two stays on the seven-day disabled list in the second half of the Potomac season.

In 2017 Basto played 129 games for AA Birmingham and hit at a .247 clip with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs. He would finish second in the club in home runs, and his RBI total would lead the Barons in 2017. He added 25 team-leading doubles while playing 50 games at first and another 34 in the outfield and nine at the “hot corner,” third base.

In the 2016 season, Basto spent 22 games at AA, hitting .188 but spent the bulk of his season (106 games) at High A Winston-Salem in the Carolina League. He would hit .308 with 12 home runs and 60 RBIs, giving him the second spot for the club in long balls and the third spot in RBIs while reaching career highs in both categories. Basto split the 2015 season between High A Winston-Salem and Low A Kannapolis in the South Atlantic League.  He drove in 33 runs in 83 games at High A and was second in the team with seven home runs, averaging .203 at the plate. He added another 42 games at Low A and hit .217 with three home runs and 18 RBIs.

Basto played in 87 games at High A Winston-Salem in 2014, hitting .263 in his first season at High A, going deep seven times with 35 runs knocked in. There would be a nine-game rehab assignment to the Arizona Rookie League for Basto where he drove in 10 runs in nine games. The 2013 season saw Basto spend time between Great Falls in the Pioneer League and Kannapolis in the South Atlantic. In 67 games combined he would hit. 218 with two home runs and 26 RBIs.

Baston would make his professional debut, playing 59 games at Bristol in the rookie level Appalachian League in 2012. He would hit .238 with one home run and 21 RBIs.  Baston committed to play at Florida Atlantic University but would instead sign with the White Sox.
