McDonald Hard-Luck Loser in 2-1 T-Bones Loss

06/20/2005 9:54 PM - The Kansas City T-Bones and Jon McDonald locked horns with the Winnipeg Goldeyes in another pitcher's duel Monday night. Again, it was the Goldeyes taking home the win, a 2-1 decision in front of 5,222 at CanWest Global Park in Winnipeg, MB, Canada.

Max Poulin scored both runs for the Goldeyes against McDonald (L, 2-2), who lost his second game of the season. McDonald again was the victim of unearned runs, with both runs scored against him of that variety. Poulin scored the first Winnipeg run in the second inning on a wild pitch following a single to center, a stolen base and a throwing error by T-Bones catcher Matt Ceriani.

Poulin's first run tied the game, 1-1, after Cody Nowlin's homer in the top of the second inning, his fifth of the season, had given the T-Bones the early lead. Nowlin finished the series 8-for-15.

Winnipeg scored the deciding run in the game in the seventh when Poulin reached base on a dropped third strike, advanced to third on a bloop single by rookie third baseman Daniel Quartararo and scored on an infield single by Ralph Santana.

McDonald was the hard-luck loser in the game, returning from a 12-day layoff after straining his back. He struck out four and walked three, allowing just four hits.

The T-Bones send Caleb Balbuena to the mound tomorrow at 7:05 in Sioux Falls to begin a three-game set before the T-Bones come home on Friday for a seven-game homestand against the Gary-Southshore Railcats and St. Paul Saints.
