KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones went into the first of a three-game series against the St. Paul Saints Friday evening looking to even the all-time record of 25-24 between the two teams. KC took an early lead at CHS Field, but the Saints quickly put a damper on the hopes for a win, then a torrential downpour put even more of a damper on the situation.

In the top of the fourth inning, the T-Bones put the first run on the board when an error by Saints second baseman Zach Walters allowed Noah Perio Jr. to reach second and Todd Cunningham to score after he had singled and stole second.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Saints answered back in force. Starting pitcher Hunter Adkins walked former T-Bone Zach Walters to start the half inning. The walk was followed by a Dante Bichete Jr. single to center field that put runners on the corners. With only one out, Justin O’Connor smashed the ball over the left-field fence for a three-run home run, making the score 3-1 Saints.

In the bottom of the fifth, St. Paul’s Burt Reynolds reached on an error by third baseman Mason Davis then stole second. Brady Shoemaker hit a center-field single that moved Reynolds to third and again put runners at the corners. With one out, Zach Walters hit into a fielder’s choice that allowed Reynolds to score for the Saints’ fourth run of the game.

The T-Bones bats started to come to life in the bottom of the seventh with an Adrian Nieto double. He was then advanced to third on a fielder’s choice by Keith Curcio. But at that moment, the Saints opened up the heavens and rain began to pour, sending the game into a rain delay.

After more than an hour delay, the game was called after six and one-third innings as a win for St. Paul, with the final score 4-1.

Hunter Adkins (5-3) is credited with loss and Matt Solter (3-4) received the win. Adkins pitched six innings, giving up eight hits and four runs with four strikeouts.

Kansas City, now 46-24 on the season, will take on the Saints again Saturday evening at 7:05 at CHS Field. The game can be heard on the T-Bones Broadcast Network at http://mixlr.com/t-bones-baseball/. After they wrap the series with St. Paul on Sunday, Kansas City will return home to take on the Texas Airhogs for a three-game homestand.
