Canaries Defeat T-Bones

06/17/2003 10:00 AM - Chad Johnson pitched a complete game victory in Sioux Falls' 9-2 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones. Chris LePine hit his first homerun of the season in the fifth inning in the losing effort.

Kansas City scored the first run of the ballgame in the second inning on an RBI sacrifice fly by SS Jack Jones, but could never regain the lead as SS Marc Mirizzi tied the game with his league-leading sixth homer of the season in the bottom half of the inning. Sioux Falls would open it up in the third inning by scoring three runs on an RBI double by 2B Curt Lee, his first hit in a Canaries uniform, and a two-run homer by RF Desi Wilson.

After the T-Bones cut the lead to 4-2 in the fifth inning, the Canaries pulled away by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jonathan Krysa took his third loss after entering the game with a 1.52 ERA.

Ray Brown and Chad Ehrnsberger both turned in strong performances in the loss as each collected two hits. Both Brown and Ehrnsberger doubled as well, maintaining their tie for the team lead at eight.

Johnson, the starter for Sioux Falls, pitched the rest of the way as he retired nine of the last eleven T-Bones he faced.

The T-Bones look to recover against the Canaries Tuesday night. LHP Josh Merrigan goes for the Canaries against RHP Wascar Serrano at 7:03 PM.
