Hunter Named Player of The Month

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The American Association has announced that Kansas City T-Bones outfielder Cedric Hunter has been named the league’s Rawlings Player of the Month for the month of August.

Cedric Hunter went 45-for-122 in 31 games in the month of August hitting .369. He added seven home runs and 18 RBIs to help keep the Kansas City T-Bones in the playoff hunt going into the final weekend of the season. On Monday Hunter was named the Player of the Week after going 11-for-23 the week before as the T-Bones went 4-2.

The centerfielder batting in the leadoff spot has had another solid week as the club closed out August. Hunter went 10-for-19 in the just completed four game series at Sioux City. He had a homer and drove in three while scoring five for Kansas City. On August 28th, he went 4-for-5 with a home run and an RBI and two nights later Hunter would have another four-hit night going 4-for-5 with an RBI scoring three runs.

Hunter is currently riding a 12-game hitting streak (23-for- 49) hitting .469 over that span. He has 14 multi-hit games out of his 39 games played for Kansas City this season. In addition to be named Player of the Week ending August 27th, Hunter also was the Player of the Week ending July 30th after his first week with the T-Bones.  For the season, the center fielder is batting .359 with eight home runs and 24 RBIs.

He began the month going 5-for-6 on August 1st at Cleburne in a 7-4 Kansas City win and then came back the next night with a home run and two RBIs in a 3-for-5 night in another T-Bones win.  On August 9th at Fargo-Moorhead, Hunter went 2-for-4 to help secure a season and series win over the RedHawks with key home run and an RBI.  On the 24th Hunter drove in four runs against Cleburne going 3-for-4 with a homer. In his 39 games, he has scored 30 runs good for fifth on the team and his eight home runs is tied for fourth best on the club.

The Decatur, Georgia native joined Kansas City on July 21st, from AAA Louisville from the Cincinnati Reds organization and came to Kansas City with an impressive baseball resume. Hunter has played in parts of 12 professional seasons, including 19 games in the Major Leagues with the San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies. Hunter, was the 3rd round selection by the San Diego Padres in the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft out of Martin Luther King  High School in Lithonia, Georgia.

The T-Bones return home for the final four game series of the season beginning tonight at 7:05 pm against the St. Paul Saints. The team currently sits a game behind Fargo-Moorhead for the Wild Card Playoff spot in the American Association.
