KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones announced that the club has sold the contract of right-handed pitcher Scott Carroll to the Chicago Cubs and that he will be reporting to AAA Iowa in the Pacific Coast League in Des Moines, Iowa. 

Carroll, 32 (09-24-84), is a 6-foot-4, 215-pound right-handed pitcher and a local product from Liberty, MO. He has been the “ace” of the T-Bones staff this season, going 8-3 with a 2.94 ERA--the fifth best in the American Association. Carroll is coming off his fourth straight quality start of six innings and three earned runs or less last week at Fargo. On the ninth of August, he held the RedHawks to two runs, only one earned, scattering five hits over seven innings.

“We are very happy to continue giving our players the opportunity to continue their dream of playing in the Major Leagues,” said T-Bones Manager Joe Calfapietra. “We are happy for Scott and every one of the T-Bones that received a second chance.”

Carroll had won his last three starts for Kansas City with 22 strike outs over his last 29 innings. He has 10 quality starts in 15 games and has gone at least five innings in all 15 games. The right-hander is 10^th in strike outs in the league with 78 in 98 innings.

It has been a record-breaking year on the development side for the T-Bones. Carroll was a multi-sport star for Liberty High School, including being named one of the top-rated quarterbacks in Missouri and earning a scholarship to Purdue University. Carroll would spend one year with the Boilermakers before he transferred to Missouri State where he played baseball and football for the Bears.

Carroll makes his return to affiliated ball after he split time in 2016 with the Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers organizations, including three games at the Major League level with Chicago. He posted an 0-0 record with a 11.57 ERA in 2 1/3 innings with the White Sox but saw most of his action at AAA Charlotte in the International League. The right-hander worked in 60 innings with a 5.55 ERA, going 2-8 in 16 games (12 starts) at AAA.

Chicago outrighted Carroll to Charlotte on July 14^th and then traded him to the Texas Rangers on the 20^th of the month, where he would go on to make two stops in the Rangers organization. He went 2-1 with a 2.92 ERA in seven starts at AA Frisco in 37 frames and was 0-1 at AAA Round Rock in a pair of games with a 10.00 ERA in nine innings. 

Carroll started his professional career in the Cincinnati Reds organization in 2007 after being selected in the third round of the 2007 June draft out of Missouri State University. He reached AAA Louisville with the Reds in 2012 before being released on July 9^th of that season, but he would ink with the White Sox three days later.  

Carroll picked up the win in his Big League debut, tossing 7 1/3 innings of one run ball in a 9-2 Sox win over Tampa Bay on April 27^th, 2014. He would appear in a total of 47 contests for the White Sox over three seasons, going 6-11 with a 4.60 ERA in 168 1/3 innings and adding 93 strike outs.

Carroll is the 30th T-Bones player to have his contract purchased while with Kansas City and eighth since the end of the 2016 season. In October of 2016, the Miami Marlins purchased outfielder Dalton Wheat’s contract, and then the Colorado Rockies purchased pitcher David Holman’s contract in December. In February, left-handed pitcher Mike Kickham was sold to the Miami Marlins and infielder Avery Romero was signed by the Colorado Rockies in May. Catcher Christian Correa was sold to the Rockies in May, right-handed pitcher Stephen Johnson was picked up by the San Francisco Giants in early June, while Zach Walters was sold to the Kansas City Royals on June 14^th.
