KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones dropped their second straight game in extra innings to the Sioux City Explorers, 5-4, in front of a crowd of 5,019 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Saturday night.

The Explorers looked to take control of the third of four games in their series with Kansas City early on in the first inning on a hot and humid Saturday evening. Left fielder, Jayce Ray, doubled to score two runs in the opening inning.

The T-Bones’ left fielder, Tyler Horan, scored off of a wild pitch from left-handed pitcher, Kramer Sneed (2-1, 6.00) to bring Kansas City within one in the second inning, but the Explorers continued making offensive plays in the third to extend their lead.

Second baseman, Joel Davis, launched a solo home run to stretch Sioux City’s lead to 3-1 to open up the third inning followed by a putout from designated hitter, Levon Washington, that would score Ray. The Explorers lead 4-1 going into the bottom of the third.

Unable to respond to the Explorers’ offense for three innings, the T-Bones finally got things rolling again in the sixth with a two-run home run to left field by third baseman, Jordan Edgerton cutting Kansas City’s deficit to one run going into the seventh inning.

Edgerton, single handedly put the T-Bones back in the game with back to back RBIs in the seventh and eighth innings. The third baseman hit an RBI single to center field in the eighth to tie the game up at four going into the final inning.

With neither team able to score in the ninth, the T-Bones and Explorers went to extra innings for the second night in a row.

In the top of the tenth, Jayce Ray reached base on an infield single off Cody Winiarski with one out. Levon Washington followed with a single to left to put runners at first and second. Ray stole third and came home on a wild pitch from Winiarski with Michael Lang at the plate, giving Sioux City a 5-4 lead.

The T-Bones got a one-out walk from Chantz Mack in the bottom of tenth, and Leo Rojas singled to give Kansas City a last chance with one out and runners at first and second. The T-Bones could not get the big hit to keep the inning going as Kevin McCanna retired the next two batters, and Kansas City dropped their second straight game in extra innings to the Explorers, 5-4.

Kansas City’s right-handed pitcher, Cody Winiarski, suffered the loss, while right-handed pitcher, Kevin McCanna (1-0, 4.18) tossed the win for the Explorers.

Right-handed pitcher, Gabe Perez (4-3, 5.36), will toss the final game of the series for the T-Bones with left-handed pitcher Cody Forsythe (3-3, 5.54) finishing off the series for the Explorers.

The T-Bones (27-20) will round out the final game of their seven game homestand tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Kansas City will host the Sioux City Explorers (26-20) for the final game of the four game series.

Fans can enjoy a post-game concert with The Voice contestants Nicholas David and Grace Maher hosted by Gold Glove Charities after tomorrow afternoon’s game and kids will also have the opportunity to run the bases.
