KANSAS CITY, KS — The Kansas City T-Bones announced the signings of infielder, Jerome Pena, and outfielder, Ross Kivett, and the release of outfielder, Omar Garcia, on Tuesday morning.

Pena, who was born in Cave Creek, Arizona, was drafted by the New York Mets in the 40th round of the 2009 MLB draft from Western Nevada College (Carson City, NV), before transferring to Texas Christian University (Fort Worth, TX) for the remainder of his collegiate eligibility.

In 2011, Pena was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 38th round of the MLB draft from TCU. He began his career with the GCL Orioles as a rookie where he hit .266 and brought in 21 RBIs.

Pena spent the 2012 season with three different organizations in three different leagues. During his time with the Aberdeen IronBirds, the Delmarva Shorebirds and Frederick Keys, he batted .288 with 20 RBIs and three home runs.

The next two years (2013 and 2014), Pena would continue playing for Frederick Keys in the Carolina League where he was third on the team for home runs with 11 in 2013. Pena’s 52 RBIs was just one short of leading the Keys in the 2013 season, while hitting a .222 batting average. 2014 was another successful season for Pena, ranking in the top seven on the Keys roster for runs, hits, doubles, triples, home runs and RBIs.

After spending over two years with Frederick Keys, Pena moved to the American Association to play for the Sioux Falls Canaries in 2015. Pena had 102 hits with a batting average of .290 and 35 RBIs for the Canaries. The infielder stayed with Sioux Falls until June 5, 2016 when he moved to the AAA Mexican League for the remainder of the 2016 season and beginning of the 2017 season.

Pena played with the Vaqueros Laguna to end the 2016 season where he batted .259 and contributed 16 RBIs. He hit four home runs and had 14 RBIs, while batting .179 to start the 2017 season with Laguna. Pena would spend less than a month with Tigres de Quintana Roo before being signed by the T-Bones and in that month, Pena batted .156 and hit one home run.

Kivett was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 10th round of the 2013 MLB draft from Kansas State University before returning to finish his collegiate career at K-State. He returned to the draft in the following year, where he was drafted in the sixth round by the Detroit Tigers.

Kivett began his career with the Connecticut Tigers in the New York-Pennsylvania League where he posted 55 hits and 26 RBIs on a .289 batting average. The former Wildcat was then traded to West Michigan Whitecaps for the remainder of the 2014 season and the complete 2015 season. To finish off the 2014 season, Kivett had 14 hits and displayed a .215 batting average in 19 games for the Whitecaps.

Kivett’s 2015 season with West Michigan was very successful bringing in 75 runs, 140 hits and 50 hits while batting .267.

The Florida State League was the next stop for the outfielder as he joined the Lakeland Flying Tigers for the 2016 season. As a Flying Tiger, Kivett had 93 hits, 11 home runs and 51 RBIs in 118 games.

Kivett began the 2017 season with Lakeland batting .270 with 43 hits before being traded to the Erie SeaWolves in the Eastern League, his final stop before joining the T-Bones.

While with the SeaWolves, Kivett posted a .218 batting average with four RBIs and 17 hits.

Kivett finished in the top 10 in multiple categories at K-State including first in stolen bases (80), second in games played (225) and games started (215), tied for second in runs scored (181), third in hits (277), fifth in hit by pitch (31), tied for fifth in walks (108), and tied for seventh in triples (11).

Prior to K-State, Kivett  was a First Team All-Northeast Ohio selection by ESPN Rise and earned all-league honors in 2010 for St. Edward High School, while hitting .485 (47-for-97) with 10 doubles, two triples, 16 RBIs and 16 steals, leading his team to a state championship.

Garcia, a New Brunswick, New Jersey native, was drafted in the seventh round of the 2013 MLB draft by the Milwaukee Brewers from Miami-Dade College, Kendall Campus in Miami, Florida.

The outfielder spent time with seven different organizations from 2013 until 2017 when he joined the Kansas City T-Bones in the American Association on May 19, 2017. Garcia appeared in 40 games with the T-Bones prior to his release, batting .220 and contributing 12 RBIs.

The T-Bones will continue a seven game homestand with the Sioux Falls Canaries on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
