Lemon Named Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Kan.The American Association has announced that T-Bones infielder/outfielder Marcus Lemon is the league’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending July 2.

Lemon, who’s from Eustis. Florida, had five multi-hit games this week on the team’s six game road trip. He went 14-for-26 (.538) this week with two home runs, two doubles and three RBIs. Lemon scored six runs for the T-Bones with three walks as the club went 5-1 on their six-game trip.

The versatile Lemon, has seen time in the outfield playing four games, but has mainly held down third base for 20 games and played another 13 at second base for Kansas City this season. His week continues a hot streak, that began on June 14. In his last 17 games, Lemon has 11 multi-hit games and is 31-for-68 (.456) in that span.

Lemon has seen his average rise to from .240 on June 14 to .323 currently and puts him 13th on the league leader board.  He is 5th in doubles and tied for 3rd in sac hits with five. For the season Lemon is now batting .323 going 51 for 158 with 10 doubles, four home runs and 20 RBIs.

Lemon signed with the T-Bones on February 15th of 2017 after the 28-year-old Lemon spent the majority of the 2016 season — his 11th as a professional — at double-A Birmingham (67 games) for the Chicago White Sox. He also spent 17 games at triple-A Charlotte in the International League.

Lemon is the son of former major-league outfielder Chet Lemon. Marcus Lemon was the fourth-round pick by the Texas Rangers in the 2006 June MLB Amateur Draft out of Eustis High School. He’s played for four major-league organizations including Texas, Atlanta, Detroit and Chicago, reaching triple-A with the White Sox and Detroit.

Lemon is the first T-Bones player to receive the league honor this season and second player recognized by Poinstreak. He joins Chris Perry, who was named pitcher of the week on June 19th.  Lemon is the first T-Bones player of the week since Brett Wiley received the honor on July 10 of 2016.

The T-Bones just finished a 5-1 road trip and pulled into a first-place tie with the Lincoln Saltdogs in the Central Division of the American Association. The club returns home tonight to face the Sioux Falls Canaries in the first game of a three-game series and a seven-game homestand.
