KANSAS CITY, Kan.– The Kansas City T-Bones announced that the club has signed right-handed pitcher Matt Sergey and that he will start the third game of the series with Fargo-Moorhead on Wednesday night on the club’s current 10-game homestand.

Sergey began this season with the Stockton Ports in the High A California League for the Oakland Athletics. He was 1-0 with a 3.48 ERA in eight relief appearances out west. The right-hander is no stranger to the American Association.  He began the 2016 season with Laredo and was part of a winning club in 2015. Sergey went 4-0 with a 0.82 ERA, before his contract was purchased by the A’s last season. In the California League in 2016 Sergey went 2-0 with a 4.00 ERA in 27 innings and 41 strikeouts.

In 2015, Sergey helped Laredo win the 2015 American Association pennant. The right hander was the winning pitcher in Laredo’s first round game two win over Wichita, working six innings of shutout baseball. He began his stay in Laredo with 26 consecutive scoreless innings including the playoffs. He would work 9 2/3 innings in the post season going 1-0 in two games with a 2.79 ERA.

Laredo acquired Sergey from Washington in the Frontier League where he went 3-4 in 62 innings and a 2.76 ER in 11 games all starts in 2015. He would add 69 strike outs with 21 walks for the Wild Things. Sergey spent 2014 with Washington and tossed the first perfect game in the 22-year history of the Frontier League on August 24, 2014. He would go 3-1 with a 1.79 ERA in 2014 in 18 games over 50 innings.

In 2013, Sergey split time between Gateway and Southern Illinois both of the Frontier League. A native of Plantation, Florida, Sergey was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 45th round of the 2007 MLB Draft but chose not to sign and attended Campbell University. In 2012, He went 7-0 with a 3.38 ERA as a senior for the Camels. Sergey made 15 starts over 90 2/3 innings with 75 strikeouts his last year on campus.

To make room for Sergey on the roster the club has released RHP Aaron Brooks. Brooks from Seattle, Washington pitched in 12 games, all in relief with a 9.52 ERA and 17 strikeouts. Brooks posted a 1-2 record out of the T-Bones pen this season.

The T-Bones continue their 10-game homestand Monday night with the first game of a three-game series with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.  Hear all the action on the T-Bones Broadcast Network online at tbonesbaseball.com.
