KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones won the first of a three-game series, 7-2, with the St. Paul Saints thanks to a four run fourth inning at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Thursday night.

The T-Bones got on the board first off an RBI single by second baseman, Zach Walters. Center fielder, Omar Garcia, scored on the play after he had advanced from first to third on an error by Saints pitcher, Corey Williams (0-1).

Walters extended the lead with another RBI single in the third, scoring Garcia. A second error by Williams allowed third baseman, Marcus Lemon, to score, putting the T-Bones up 3-0 early on.

St. Paul remained quiet through four innings, while catcher Leo Rojas launched a three-run home run to stretch Kansas City’s lead to six. Shortstop, Eddie Newton, followed Rojas’ lead and added his own solo homerun to put the T-Bones up 7-0.

The Saints would get on the board in the fifth inning. Left fielder, Anthony Gallas, a hit a triple and advanced off of a single by designated hitter, Tony Caldwell. The T-Bones kept ahold of a 7-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Saints scored their final run of the game in the seventh with a Caldwell double, never able to cut the T-Bones lead to less than five.

Scott Carroll improved to 2-1 for the T-Bones. The veteran from Liberty, Missouri, went seven solid innings, scattering seven hits and giving up just two earned runs on the night.

The T-Bones will continue a three-game series with St. Paul tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

“The momentum is the starting pitcher for the next night,” manager Joe Calfapietra said. “If he pitches the way he’s capable of doing then it gives us an opportunity to score some runs (tomorrow).”
