GARY, Ind.  — Kansas City fell behind early against Gary SouthShore and could not climb back, losing the first game of the series, 8-3, Friday night at U.S. Steel Yard.

The RailCats scored six of their eight runs in the first inning against starter Josh Hodges (2-4). Reggie Wilson smacked a one-out single and was followed by Chase Harris, who reached on an error by T-Bones third baseman Ryan Retz, and Frank Martinez, who walked. Alex Crosby knocked Wilson home. The very next batter, Jamie Del Valle, doubled to right, bringing in two more runs. But it did not stop with that. With two outs, Andy DeJesus launched a three-run home run to right, his first homer of the season, giving the RailCats all the runs they’d need.

Gary SouthShore added to the lead in the second inning. Wilson led off with a walk, and after a single by Harris sent him to third, he came around to score when Martinez singled. That gave the RailCats a 7-0 lead through two innings.

The T-Bones began to claw back in the fourth inning when Tyler Massey and Dalton Wheat were brought home by Anthony Gallas and Tyson Gillies. But Gary immediately answered in the bottom of the fourth when Crosby knocked in Wilson, who scored his third run of the game and gave his team an 8-2 lead.

RailCat starter Richard Castillo (7-6), who started the season with the T-Bones, went gave up seven hits and three runs in 6 1/3 innings. He also struck out five.

The T-Bones scored again in the sixth. After Gallas was hit by a pitch with one out, he was sent home by Vladimir Frias, cutting the T-Bones’ deficit to 8-3.

The loss marks the fourth in a row for Kansas City. The T-Bones are 2-9 since their seven-game winning streak from Aug. 8-14.
