Laredo got started quickly, with a three-run top of the first inning against Kansas City starter Jared Messer, and never looked back. Denis Phipps and Jesus Posso each homered in the first, sandwiching a double by Ty Morrison. Laredo increased its lead to 4-0 in the second after Burt Reynolds scored on a base hit by Abel Nieves.

 

The T-Bones got on the board in the bottom of the second inning, as Gallas scored from second base on a single by Vladimir Frias, which pulled Kansas City to a 4-1 deficit. The closest the T-Bones came to tying the game came in the next inning when Kansas City put together a two-out rally. Brett Wiley and Jake Blackwood started it with back-to-back singles. Gallas then knocked in both runners with a hit to center, and cut the score to 4-3. Gallas was stranded, though, when Tyson Gillies struck out, ending the inning.

 

Laredo continued to put the pressure on Kansas City, scoring three additional runs in the fourth inning, and then putting the game away with a four-run seventh inning.

 

The T-Bones scored three in the seventh, as Gallas hit his 16th home run of the season, which was an inside-the-park variety. Gallas drove in a game-high five runs. Offense wasn’t an issue for Kansas City, which had 14 hits, including three from both Blackwood and Gallas.

 

Messer (4-3), who threw a complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts against Laredo on Aug. 12, gave up nine hits and was charged with seven earned runs over 6 innings. During that span, Messer struck out nine. T-Bones relievers Josh Tols and Evan DeLuca allowed six runs in 3 innings of relief.

 

Laredo starter Ryan Beckman (8-6) gave up nine hits and five runs in 6 innings.

 

The Lemurs notched 17 hits in the high-scoring affair that included a total of four walks, combined, for both teams.
